Charge

The Advising and Course Scheduling Working Group

  • Establish and implement best practices for advising of, and course scheduling for, academic index IR4 and IR5 students
  • Establish and implement best practices for general advising
    • Examine the effectiveness of individual versus group advising and determine the conditions under which group advising can and should be used and the conditions under which individual advising should take place
    • Examine the frequency of advising and establish a schedule of advising differentiated by students’ needs (e.g., IR4 and IR5 students compared to IR1, IR2, and IR3 students)
  • Establish and implement best practices for ensuring course availability and communication across colleges and other constituencies
  • Establish and implement best practices to:
    • Connect pre-majors to colleges and departments
    • Help pre-majors plan realistically for their college and major connections
  • Establish and implement best practices to:
    • Connect General Studies students to colleges and departments
    • Help General Studies students plan realistically for their college and major connections
  • Ensure that all goals and strategies are in sync with the WVU 2020 Strategic Plan

The At-Risk Student Interventions Working Group

  • Design, implement, and assess:
    • An Early Alert Program [focused on first-year students – and on second-year students in high D/F/W/repeat courses]
    • An enhanced Mid-Term Report Intervention
    • Enhanced Probation Interventions
    • An enhanced Recruit Back Intervention
  • Ensure that all goals and strategies are in sync with the WVU 2020 Strategic Plan

The Differentiated Programming for Students of Color Working Group

  • Review data about the undergraduate experiences of students of color compared to other students’ experiences
  • Establish goals and outcomes for enhancing students’ of color WVU undergraduate experiences
  • Determine and coordinate the implementation of strategies to meet those established goals and outcomes
  • Ensure that all goals and strategies are in sync with the WVU 2020 Strategic Plan

The First Year Experience Program and the Living Learning Communities Working Groups

  • Finalize the FYE course core components
  • Explore possibilities and recommend FYE course name/number change
  • Discuss the integration the FYE program with the on-boarding of students and students’ transition to the university
  • Ensure that all goals and strategies are in sync with the WVU 2020 Strategic Plan

The Service Excellence Working Group

  • Assess existing inefficiencies and barriers to student success based on information from the following:
    • The Student Satisfaction Inventory (SSI)
    • The Graduating Senior Survey (GSS)
    • Student focus groups
    • Group members’ and colleagues’ “experiences in the trenches” with students and parents
  • Prioritize key areas for improvement
  • Design and implement new processes to remove or reduce inefficiencies and barriers and/or to improve communication to students (and parents) to enable them better to negotiate university processes
  • Ensure that all goals and strategies are in sync with the WVU 2020 Strategic Plan
